Hunter PVP Tips

WOW Hunters are great for pulling monsters as they are able to set traps that hinder monsters that the Hunters pull to attack. Hunters are also able to use various beast-related special abilities, take on bestial traits that allow them to do things that they could not do normally, use a wide variety of ranged attacks supplemented by a few melee abilities, and the ability to control and tame beasts.

Hunters are closely related to their pets and must remember to always keep their pet's happiness in mind. When using a pet, Hunters will notice an icon in the top left corner of their screen that depicts their pet's level of happiness. The more Hunters use their pets, the lower their pet's level of happiness will become. Hunters should always remember to feed their pets to raise their pet's level of happiness or worry about their pet abandoning them or even attacking the Hunter! Hunters are also the only class able to name their pets.

1. Focus on agility and stamina for PvP. Those stats are far more important than any other.

2. Choose a ranged and melee weapon with the highest max damage that you can find, regardless of its DPS. PvP is all about burst damage -- doing a ton of damage in a short time so that your opponent does not have time to heal or react. As a hunter, you want them dead before they know what hit them. Ignore weapons with low damage and high speed, even purple ones, as those are more suitable for PvE.

3. Aimedshot + multishot + autoshot "three-shot combo" is your main burst damage, it consists of a set of 3 attacks that comes pretty much instantaneously. Hit your aimed shot button, start spamming your multishot button, and then you'll get your multishot then autoshot right after your aimed shot casts. Use this combo whenever possible, such as when your target is
a. stationary (i.e. not running towards or away from you)
b. crowd controlled such as by scattershot, intimidation, freezing trap, entrapment, etc.
c. busy with something else, such as trying to cap a flag.

4. Get out of melee range with scattershot, feign death + freezing trap, intimidation, and wing clip. Feign death + freezing trap is in particular one of the most abusive tools that hunters have, use it every time an opponent gets within melee range. For melee, many hunters create a macro to spam raptor strike, wing clip, mongoose bite, and counterattack so that they automatically wing clip and counterattack whenever possible.

5. Learn to kite. Kiting is shooting on the run -- jump, turn and shoot an instant such as concussiveshot / stings / arcaneshot, turn back around, and land facing the original direction. Kiting is essential for killing melee opponents such as rogues, it might be difficult to learn at first but once you have it down, it's simple to execute.

6. Hunters kill leather and cloth opponents. Warriors and paladins take forever to kill so avoid them as much as possible. Rogues, druids in caster/cat form, warlocks, priests, mages are your primary targets. Choose your targets so that you maximize your killing.

7. Volley does not stop opponents from capping your flags, nor does any channeled AoE spell. You must hit an opponent with an non-channeled attack that does direct damage.

8. Trap and flare before battles. Resist the urge the run in with guns blazing before you've adequately protected yourself with a trap at your feet and a flare to keep away rogues. When you put down a trap, there is nearly a 100% chance that someone will hit it before it expires, so it is almost never a waste.

9. Get a fast attack speed pet such as Broken Tooth or ZG bat. Fast attack speed pets are amazing for interrupting spells.

10. Keep your pet on passive and manually command it to attack (or hotkey it to attack whenever you use certain abiliites) so that it does not break your CC or others'.

WoW Hunter Abilities and Leveling Guide

The hunter is the most proficient soloing class in WoW. Their unstoppable when soloing and can even solo some instances with ease. They have many utility abilities that make them dependant on their own skills. Discover the secrets top end hunters use and their talent builds.

Hunter abilities are distributed about 2/3’s into our own powers and such with the remaining 1/3 being the slew of pet specific talents such as mend pet, revive, etc. This number of pet abilities increases should you specialize into Beast Mastery.

Properly using a Hunter, of course, depends on the efficient usage of our pet, whether that be for tanking, as beast mastery, additional DPS as marksman, due to declining threat gain without talent tree buffs, or simply a distraction, as Survival in PvP.

Of course it’ll be slightly annoying constantly taming and training new pets for the period of time required to learn new skills to train your own, but it’s worth it in the end for the increased DPS and tanking abilities. The 3.1 patch series has made the training and teaching of your pets somewhat easier. In addition, Hunters can now train more exotic pets, such as the T Rex's wandering around Ungoro Crater.

Leveling as a hunter

when done right, can be compared to the pleasure of slowly sipping down a nice glass of (insert cold beverage of choice here) on a hot summer day, pleasurable and luxuriously easy – Just the way I like it to be when I level.

Of course not all players take it the right way, many over emphasize equipment, others forget to train pet skills, but all of this takes away more time in the long run than you might gain from skipping it temporarily.

Thankfully, all three styles of Hunter builds are viable for leveling, catering to those who prefer to snipe from a long range, sick enraged cats on people, and the smaller, yet equally capable crowd, that likes the tactical challenge of survival from 1-80.

Marksmanship is the talent tree for hunters who prefer a variety of deadly ranged attacks. Marksmanship provides higher dps from a range which is why hunters who mainly raid use this tree. It can be used for PVP, but it’s mostly if the hunter gains the advantage over the opponent by ambushing.

Beast mastery is one of the most popular trees to use especially for PVP. It gives the hunter a great dps challenger in its pet’s enhancement. Beast mastery pets are brutal especially if they ambush a player without them seeing the hunter. Occasionally pets may even become invincible for a few seconds that can be the death of any opposing player.

The Survival tree is not as useful during leveling, but it can be a great tree after completing the leveling grind to 80 and entering arenas or battlegrounds. For instance, wing clip can be used to slow down players. Traps can keep crowd control when dealing with more than one opponent. It is a tree that will greatly increase your chance of survival especially against more than one player that might ambush you.

What I've told you here is just a small bit of information I've learnt as a hunter from the guide I used. It is no wonder, the best WoW Hunter Leveling Guide out there.
